Fonseka said that the defence establishment must be strengthened to counter the threat. He also castigated the President for some of the decisions he had taken in the recent past. He also said that information passed on to him showed that the threat from the Easter Sunday bombers has not been completely extinguished. Former Army Commander and United National Party Parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka today warned in Parliament that he does not feel the threat posed by terrorism to Sri Lanka has been completely eliminated.Fonseka slammed the statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena in Parliament yesterday where he had claimed that the threat had been mostly eliminated. The former Army Commander said that more needs to be done to fully eliminate the threat. Responding to a question raised by opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa on why he supported Sirisena to be President in 2015, Fonseka said that he was never in support of the decision to nominate Sirisena as the common candidate in 2015.He said that former President Chandrika Kumaratunga had led the process to make Sirisena the Presidential candidate in 2015 and once the United National Party had agreed he had no choice but to support the decision taken by the party.
