India-Pakistan bilateral series will benefit both cricket boards: Shoaib Akhtar

first_imgFormer Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said a bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan will bring in large sum of money for both the boards and said that the money could be used in helping grass roots cricket.He weighed in with his take on the long standing issue saying it was not just Pakistan which needed to play India but also India which needed to play Pakistan.”It is not just about us wanting to play them. I think it is also important for India to play us. And the fact is the financial rewards from a Indo-Pak series is immense for both boards and the positive is that money will eventually trickle down to the players and in helping the grass roots cricket,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by PTI.Also read: Shoaib Akthar keen on buying Pakistan Super League franchise “India might be a financial powerhouse but even they know they can earn a lot more from playing Pakistan. There are benefits for both boards,” he said.The Pakistan pacer also said that Pakistan and India, their cricketers, officials and politicians needed to refrain from making too many statements about the issue and concentrate more on staging the series. He said he considered India-Pakistan matches to be the pinnacle of international cricket and that a bilateral series will help both the countries.last_img
