NBL: Giant slayers Ndejje take care of KIU Titans

Arthure Ainebyona made one of his two free throws after drawing a foul from Micheal Bwanga, for the University side’s first point of the game with just over four minutes to play in the first.KIU went on a run of 9-0 to increase their lead to 13 and in process won the quarter 17-8.In the second quarter, Ndejje started strongly, reducing the deficit to six points thanks to Martin Bulum’a hook shot and Peter Sefuma’s two free throws.Despite KIU’s resistance, Ndejje won the quarter 25-16 and ensured the sides go into half-time all square at 33-33.Ndejje took its first lead in the game with over two minutes of the third played when Gauthier Baderha sank a three on a jump shot with the score-board reading 39-37.The University side did not relinquish their lead as they won the quarter 19-16 and ensured they go into the last 10 minutes with a slim three point advantage.The fourth saw the lead change hands on three occasions and with nine seconds to play, KIU thought they had won it after Balungu made one of his two free throws and his side led 66-55 but Ndejje had other ideas.The University side made a first break into KIU’s half, Derrick Katumba was then fouled by Joseph Chuma as he tried to execute a jump shot and went to the line for two free throws with only three seconds to play. Katumba could only manage to convert one of the free throws sending the game into over-time as the scores were tied at 66 all.In Overtime, KIU started strongly thanks to three points from Micheal Bwanga but Ndejje were soon back in front after Samuel Ajack’s three and Katumba converting one of his two frees.From there after, Ndejje were in control of the game, winning overtime 15-12 and the game 81-78.Samuel Ajack top scored on the night with 16 points despite committing five turn overs. Peter Sefuma was the only other Ndejje player to reach double figures in terms of points with 10.For KIU, they had five players (four starters) reach double figures in the losing effort. Ssudi Ulanga, Oscar Muge, Micheal Bwanga, Ethiene Kazungu and Denis Balungu scored 14,13,14,15 and 15 points respectively.Ndejje have now defeated three of the four title contenders in KIU, City Oil and Power.This was the University side’s fifth victory in 10 games while KIU has now lost four in 12.Comments last_img
