Women’s Basketball with League-High Four Named to All-MVC Teams

She is scoring a league-best 19.9 points per game while her name is among the MVC leaders in several other statistical categories, including three-point percentage (39.9, 3rd), field goal percentage (48.4, 4th), free throw percentage (81.6, 5th) and rebounding (5.2, 14th). She and Rhine have a league-best 14 20-plus scoring games, and Hittner has posted a league-best four 30-plus scoring games. Hittner scored double digits in 27-of-30 games and is the No. 3 active scorer in the league with 1,490 points. Dean has started every game in her final season, averaging 10.3 points while shooting a career-best 45.8 percent from the floor and career-high 40.6 percent from the three-point arc. Dean has made 232 career three-pointers, a total that is fourth all-time at Drake. Dean made two or more three-pointers in a game 14 times this season, including equaling her career-high of five against Iowa State. She is the No. 2 active scorer in the MVC and is No. 20 all-time at Drake with 1,520 points. Rhine, who was named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season on Tuesday, is on the All-MVC First Team for the second-straight season after being awarded honorable mention honors in 2016. This season, Rhine, who has 12 double-doubles, ranks second in the league behind Hittner in scoring at 18.7 points. She leads the conference in field goal percentage at 60.9, ranks second in rebounding at 8.4 and is eighth in free throw percentage at 79.2. Rhine scored 10 or more points in 29-of-30 games. She is the 10th Bulldog to be named to the All-MVC First Team twice in a career. With 1,593 career points, Rhine is the active scoring leader in the MVC. LOUIS – Four student-athletes from the Drake University women’s basketball team were selected to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams, the MVC office announced Wednesday, March 13. Sammie Bachrodt (Wichita, Kan.), Becca Hittner (Urbandale, Iowa) and Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.), were named to the All-MVC First Team while Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) garnered All-MVC Honorable Mention accolades. Drake has a league-leading 50 first team all-conference selections in MVC history. This is the second-straight All-MVC First Team selection for Bachrodt, who also earned All-MVC Honorable Mention honors in 2017. Bachrodt, who has started all 130 games in her career, is averaging 9.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and a league-high 2.4 steals per game in her final season. With 272 career steals, Bachrodt needs three more to break Kay Riek’s all-time record that has stood since 1984. Among the MVC leaders, Bachrodt is tied for fifth in three-point percentage at 37.7 and is 15th in field goal percentage at 42.6.
