Exclusive – Pardew a poor man-manager, claims former player

first_imgDon Hutchinson believes Crystal Palace would be appointing the right man in Alan Pardew, but criticised the 53-year-old’s man-management style. The former West Ham boss is expected to leave Newcastle United in favour of a move to the Eagles, following Neil Warnock’s dismissal from the club.  “Alan Pardew comes out and says he hasn’t got an ego and he’s not big time – he is, absolutely,” Hutchinson told The Sports Bar. “But, that’s the sort of make-up that makes him a decent manager.“When he puts a tracksuit on and he coaches he is actually a very, very good coach. Some of his sessions were absolutely outstanding.“He’s just not a good man-manager and I think for me, especially in the Premier League and in the modern day, you have got to have that in your locker. But Hutchinson admitted Pardew’s pending move to Palace is a good fit for both clubs.“Newcastle have done really well out of it,” Hutchinson added. “If Mike Ashley can get £4 million or £5m compensation in then that’s good for Newcastle.“Palace are getting a guy who will be enthusiastic there, it’s something new for him, it‘ll be a challenge. I just hope that his man-management style has changed over the years.“He’s got a difficult job to get them united with good team spirit, but I genuinely believe that he can keep them up [in the Premier League].”last_img
