Jamaican artistes to perform at charitable concerts in Linden, Bartica

The aim of the concerts is to raise funds for Guyanese athletes and persons involved in the cultural field.The reggae artistes will also be heading to Bartica on August 4.According to them, performing voluntarily at these concerts gives them an opportunity to give back to the country in thanks for its support over the years.Lead singer of the group, Stephenson noted that he was pleased to be a part of the worthy cause, adding that he would be doing more concerts of this nature in the near future.Stephenson noted that coming from a country where there was development in sport, he understood that in order for that sector to be fully developed, funds were needed.“I think you just need to reach out, because there are a lot of artistes aside from us that are willing to help and certainly able to support the cause and really boost the cause of supporting young athletes.“Things are changing and maybe we coming here and doing this concert can sensitise people to the fact that things are changing and they really need to start investing in their athletes, more so the young athletes.”Vice Chairman of the Committee, Lyndon “Jumbie” Jones highlighted that the artistes were very impressed with the work the Committee was doing for sportspersons and were intrigued as to how they could help out.“It is always a great vibe, when you can spread some information [and] spread some love,” he said, adding that often times artistes look to countries as just another market, but noted that it was good to leave a legacy behind.Guyanese performers Roger “Young Bill Rogers” Hinds, “Granny Ivelaw”, and “Chiney Man” among other artistes are said to be in the line-up to perform.last_img
