HAMPDEN — The Mount Desert Island boys’ outdoor track team placed third at the Penobscot Valley Conference large school championship on Friday at Hampden Academy.Ryan Bender led MDI by winning three events. Bender took first in the 200-meter dash (23.16), the 400-meter dash (52.51) and the 4×400-meter relay (3:36.28) with Griffin Maristany, Billy Kerley and Josh Bloom. MDI’s Evan Jeannotte also won a title in the javelin throw (151 feet and two inches).MDI totaled 89.5 points. Foxcroft won with 128.5; Brewer placed second with 118; Hampden, fourth with 76; Old Town, fifth with 60; Bangor, sixth with 48; Presque Isle, seventh with 31; Ellsworth, eighth with 18; John Bapst, ninth with 17; and Hermon, 10th with one.Runners-up for MDI included Croix Albee in the shot put (47 feet and 9.5 inches) and in the discus throw (131 feet and nine inches); Ryan Bender in the 100-meter dash (11.58); and Josh Bloom, Thorin Smith, Sean Murray and Billy Kerley in the 4×800-meter relay (8:56.51).This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textMark Berry of Ellsworth took second in the 1,600-meter race walk (8:31.66).GIRLS’ RESULTSKiona Osterlin of Ellsworth won the 1,600-meter run in 5:33.33 to lead the girls’ team. Ellsworth placed ninth with 12 points; Brewer won with 168; Hampden took second with 125; Bangor, third with 72; Old Town, fourth with 56; John Bapst, fifth with 54; Presque Isle, sixth with 45; MDI, seventh with 40; Foxcroft, eighth with 14; and Hermon, 10th with three.For MDI, Ashley Anderson won a title in the 200-meter dash (26.64) and took second in the 4×100-meter relay with Lily Turner, Adriana Novella and Paige Mason.
