BCCI-Lodha hearing rescheduled for December 9

first_imgTHE hearing of the matter regarding the BCCI not implementing the Lodha Committee’s recommendations in total, as directed by the Supreme Court, has been rescheduled from December 5 to December 9. It was reported that the Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur, who is part of the bench hearing the issue, was unavailable. The Supreme Court had last heard the case on October 21, when it passed an interim order asking the BCCI to stop disbursing funds to state associations until the association gave a written resolution that it would adopt the Lodha Committee’s recommendations.BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke were also required to submit an affidavit of compliance in the court by December 3, elaborating on the recommendations already implemented by the board and the steps taken to persuade the state associations to adopt the recommendations in total.Since the previous hearing, the Lodha Committee submitted its third status report in the Supreme Court and once again recommended that the BCCI and state office-bearers who did not meet the eligibility criteria laid out in the recommendations be removed immediately. It also recommended that GK Pillai, the former home secretary in the federal government, be appointed an “observer” of the BCCI and that he oversee the board’s financial transactions. The BCCI, however, remained firm in its stance that it could not force the Lodha Committee’s recommendations on its state associations, and that a majority vote was needed to pass them.At several board meetings, the states had voiced opposition to most of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations: in particular, the one-state-one-vote policy, the age cap for office-bearers, and the limits on tenure. The Lodha Committee – comprising former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha and retired Supreme Court judges Ashok Bhan and R. Raveendran – was formed in January 2015 to determine appropriate punishments for some of the officials involved in the 2013 IPL corruption scandal, and also to propose changes to streamline the BCCI, reform its functioning, prevent sporting fraud and conflict of interest. In January 2016, the committee released its report, which recommended an exhaustive overhaul of the BCCI’s governance and administrative structures. On July 18, the Supreme Court approved the majority of the recommendations and directed the Lodha Committee to supervise the BCCI’s implementations of the same. However, despite the Lodha Committee laying out timelines and other directives, the board has not cooperated because its state associations objected to the recommendations. Bing Spiffs Itself Up, Though It May Not Matter Much

first_imgHow Intelligent Data Addresses the Chasm in Cloud Tags:#Bing#Microsoft#Microsoft Xbox Serverless Backups: Viable Data Protection for … Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts center_img brian proffitt Bing’s new look and feel, Microsoft’s marketing gurus tell us, is all about using Bing out of the box. It’s a laudable goal, but will enough mobile users actually get to experience the new design announced today to appreciate it?The new look for Microsoft’s search engine is not actually out on the Bing home page yet—buried in the release information is the fact that this will be rolled out in the U.S. over the coming weeks. The new redesign will include an updated Snapshot feature that encapsulates information about the search topic, as will as making more relevant information highlighted with bigger fonts at the top of the search results. Most importantly, the search features of Bing will be more tightly integrated within Microsoft platforms, such as Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox devices, which will ideally start providing a knowledge layer for users that offers them robust information even as other tasks are performed. Look up travel fares to another city, for instance, and you should see weather information for that city pop up.This kind of pushed content is very much keeping in line with what Bing is moving towards. Bing’s team has been building a database that is built on connections, not just indexed links. Ideally, such connections will lead to actions. If you search for a new auto repair shop, for instance, one day the search engine could suggest an appointment time for you, based on your existing schedule. At the very least, Bing wants to provide users with information for which they might not have thought to look.Along those lines, there are some interesting new features that I am looking forward to seeing. The Page Zero feature, which promises to populate the screen with known search results to start the search process rolling before the first “actual” search results screen is displayed, is certainly one of them. The rollout is a bit heavy on the marketing side, to the point of being distracting. In a related blog post, Microsoft spends an inordinate amount of time going over the cool new typography of the fonts and the design of the new logo. While no one wants to take away from the hard work that Scott Erickson, Senior Director, Brand and Creative at Microsoft and his branding team does, I tend to get a little suspicious about substance over form when I read passages like this in product blogs:Our hero color is Orange 124 and our primary palette was chosen to embody the characteristics that those colors usually evoke – clarity, confidence and warmth. Having a strong sense of color and living within a vibrant corporate palette allows us to clarify our identity without losing the freedom to explore and express ourselves in new ways.Bing’s Mobile ProblemBing has a lot more going for it than people think under the hood, and it really shouldn’t need this kind of dressing up. But it does, for the simple reason that people need to hear what Bing can do.See also: Is Microsoft Doubling Down On the Exact Wrong Mobile Strategy? Many of these changes, after all, will be well-woven into the Microsoft device framework: the aforementioned Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox. The “step out of the box” feature set Microsoft is planning for Bing will work very well on those devices, because Microsoft will be able to tightly integrate Bing on those platforms. But what about all the other non-Microsoft devices out there? The Bing team acknowledges that Bing will have to perform just as well on iOS and Android devices, and indeed Lawrence Ripsher, General Manager of User Experiences, Bing, makes a point to mention this towards the conclusion of his blog entry:Results should look as beautiful on a Surface or iPad as they do on a PC or phone. Our new platform will enable us to improve experiences across an ever growing range of devices, like mobile. In fact we recently announced a revamped experience as part of Windows Phone and this release will leverage those improvements to will bring them to all mobile devices. This addresses the display of search results, but what about the tight integration with the user’s device that Bing gets on Windows Phone and XBox machines? If you think Apple and Google will allow Bing to supplant its services on its respective iOS and Android devices, think again—it will still be a Siri and Google Now world for them.Without that integration, Bing’s user experience will be limited on those other platforms. On Android and iOS, Bing will be just another search app, still stuck in the box that Bing is trying to escape.Bing logo courtesy of Microsoft Cloud Hosting for WordPress: Why Everyone is Mo…last_img read more

LSU S Jamal Adams Blasts Tigers’ Fans For Leaving Basketball Game Early, Says They “Show No Loyalty”

first_imgJamal Adams rips LSU fans on Twitter. These LSU fans aren’t loyal. That’s what Tigers’ safety Jamal Adams thinks, anyway. Wednesday evening, LSU’s men’s basketball team lost to Tennessee, 78-63. Many Tigers’ fans were seen departing from the Pete Maravich Assembly Center with minutes to go in the contest. This did not please Adams, a 6-foot, 206-pound rising sophomore on the LSU football team. I can’t hold my tongue. LSU fans show no loyalty. You expect so much from us athletes, but won’t stay and support through the whole game.— JamalAdams™ (@TheAdams_era) March 5, 2015LSU has been known for having such prideful and loyal fans, and I hate to see people ruining that image. The game’s not over until it ends.— JamalAdams™ (@TheAdams_era) March 5, 2015While it’s probably not smart for Adams to call out his school’s fan base on Twitter, he’s not wrong in expressing some frustration. It’s the final home game of the season – you can stay in your seats until the final buzzer sounds, LSU fans.last_img read more

If I was annoyed before, that finished me. The ‘no’ from Barcelona wasn’t because of a Real issue, although they tried, but because of an internal issue at Barca.”“Here, though, the non-consideration on City’s part was motivated 100 per cent by some position at Real that I prefer not to comment on,” Martinez went on to add.last_img read more
